Illinois mother son killed in I-70 crash

NEW CASTLE — An Illinois woman and her son died Thursday morning after their car crashed into the back of a semi tractor-trailer that had stopped after being involved in another accident along Interstate 70 in Henry County.

Timeka Felton, 31, and Justin Boxley, 12, both of Kankakee, were pronounced dead at the scene, about halfway between the Knightstown and New Castle interstate exits.

Henry County Sheriff Butch Baker said Felton was traveling east on I-70 when she drove into, and under, the back of a tractor-trailer that had stopped in the passing lane.

Baker said Garcia Gildardo, 36, Chicago, had stopped his rig seconds earlier after it brushed and got tangled with another eastbound vehicle on the interstate. Gildardo stopped to check on the welfare of people in the other vehicle, which had spun out and landed in the snow-covered grassy median. Before the trucker reached the vehicle in the median, the Felton vehicle slammed into the back of the parked truck. The force pushed the car’s engine and front seat underneath the truck and broke the truck’s rear axle.
