I-70 West closed after 24-vehicle pileup

Maryland State Police say two people are confirmed dead in a multi-vehicle pileup on I-70 west of Myersville, near the Frederick County-Washington County line.

I-70 westbound is closed in the area, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration’s website. SHA also reports 24 vehicles were involved in the crash.

Westbound traffic on I-70 is being detoured onto Md. 17 at exit 42 where traffic is being directed onto U.S. 40.

Lt. David Kloos at the Maryland State Police - Hagerstown Barrack says the crash involved at least 15 passenger vehicles and several tractor-trailer combinations.

The collision was first reported at 12:30 p.m.

At the time of the collision heavy snow was falling, according to police.

At 1:30 p.m., police said I-70 will likely be closed for another three to four hours.
