State Police are investigating a crash on Interstate 81 that killed a Boones Mill man.

Sgt. Bob Carpentieri tells us 72-year-old Donald Wade Huffman was hauling a load of paper northbound on Interstate 81 around 9:00 p.m. Sunday night, when his tractor-trailer swerved in the road, hit a guardrail, and eventually went down a hill near Natural Bridge.

Investigators say the crash threw Huffman from the truck. Huffman landed in the backyard of a home on Frontage Road.

EMS crews took Huffman to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, but doctors say he died.

State Police say they do not know if Huffman was wearing a seat belt.
