Truckers plan protest over speed limiter legislation
Truckers frustrated by Ontario’s new speed limiter legislation are planning a rolling protest in March.
The law requiring trucks to have an electronic device restricting speeds to 105 km/h came into effect Jan. 1 and since then, Cambridge truck driver Scott Mooney says congestion along Highway 401 is already building.
Three convoys of trucks are planning to converge on Queen’s Park in Toronto on March 2, en route from London, Cambridge and Bowmanville. The group from Cambridge is expected to depart around 9 a.m. following the morning rush. It’s not known how many trucks will participate, but more than 500 people have joined a Facebook site supporting the protest. A similar protest planned in December was called off at the last minute due to a snow storm.
