Seven people were charged with prostitution after being arrested in a sting operation last week, El Paso County sheriff’s deputies said Monday.
“Operation Trojan” was initiated when several people complained of encountering or being approached by the prostitutes, Deputy Jesse Tovar said.
From Monday to Friday, an unspecified number of undercover deputies were sent to areas in Central and Downtown and truck stops on the outskirts of the city, he said.
The sting ended in the arrests of Erika Daniels, 31; Liana Hernandez, 44 Laura Fernandez, 47; Diana Cantu, 47; Rodolfo Rosales, 29; Francisco Guerra, 29; and Jose Cisneros, 27. Fernandez was charged with prostitution/third or more offense, and the other six were charged with prostitution, according to jail records.
For security purposes, Tovar declined to release the specific locations where the arrests happened or the exact number of undercover de puties in the operation.
Tovar said deputies also discovered drugs and other criminal activity in the targeted areas.
The Sheriff’s Office, he said, planned to continue other prostitution sting operations in the coming months.
When asked whether prostitution was on the rise, he said, “We can’t determine whether it’s rising. We’ll de termine that at a later date after the other sting operations are conducted.”
The El Paso Police Department regularly conducts prostitution sting operations. Booking photos of those arrested are posted on the department’s Web site at www.eppd.org
