Twitter and Trucking and Fighting

August 31st, 2009

My friend Brandon owner of www.vBulletinSetup.com turned me on to Twitter several months ago. He is always looking for ways to promote sites on the internet. I had owned a website that Brandon helped me on that was trucker related, also my blog which you are reading now that we moved from blogspot.com that I had, had for a long time. So I thought what the hell, I would join and see what it was all about. I joined as @arealredneck, the same username I had used on several sites across the internet. A couple of months went by I had a few followers nothing to brag about, as I wasn’t really sure what it was all about yet anyway. I hadn’t really tweeted about anything anyway, just mainly about an online game I had been playing for a few months. I had followed a few truck drivers on twitter, one was @TerenceSmelser he seemed alright to me. He would post a lot of tweets about the government that I felt the same way about. He also had a bunch following him, so I figured he had been around for a while, and he followed me back. So I followed a bunch of his followers and most followed me back as well.

I am not sure if he and @Truckerdesiree had been having their feud at this time or not, but I started following her as well. Anyway, I started seeing an opportunity to use my blog on twitter, as many do. WordPress makes plug-ins to allow you to post to your blog that will tweet your post onto twitter. My blog was meant to help truck drivers find the news quickly about their industry, WITHOUT having to take the time to have to search all over the internet for it. Yes, I copy and paste a lot of “my post”, but I give credit to the original site as well. But I also write a LOT of my own post as well. » Read more: Twitter and Trucking and Fighting

The driver of a big rig truck was arrested Sunday after he shot and wounded an Oakland police officer on Interstate 880, fled the scene and then crashed, police said.

The suspect, a 41-year-old Alameda man whose name wasn’t released, had been pulled over by two officers about 3:45 a.m. on northbound Interstate 880 near the 66th Avenue off-ramp because he appeared to be driving erratically, said Officer Jeff Thomason, Oakland police spokesman. » Read more: Trucker arrested in Oakland cop shooting

American Association for Justice Study Ignores Truck Safety Facts

August 28th, 2009

Reporters, newscasters and commentators covering the recently released study by the American Association for Justice (AAJ) should include this information:

Despite allegations by the AAJ of poor safety and compliance in the trucking industry, the truck-involved fatality rate is now at its lowest since the U.S. Department of Transportation began keeping those statistics in 1975.

Results from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Road check 2009, the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial vehicles in the world, show nationwide improvements and the highest compliance rates ever for the NAS Level I inspections–the most comprehensive roadside inspection. » Read more: American Association for Justice Study Ignores Truck Safety Facts

Polish lorry driver downed whisky and vodka then fell asleep in middle of M20 motorway

August 28th, 2009

A Polish lorry driver who fell asleep in his truck in the middle of a busy motorway after downing bottles of whisky and vodka has been jailed. Magistrates reacted in horror as they heard how Slawomir Jablonski was found ‘comatose’ behind the wheel of his HGV in the middle of the M20 motorway heading towards London.

Sittingbourne magistrates in Kent heard how the 29-year-old trucker – who was more than five times over the legal limit – had swigged from the bottles as he drove his truck from Dover. Police were called to the motorway after reports from drivers saying that the truck had ‘broken down’ on the M20 on August 17 at around 3.30pm. » Read more: Polish lorry driver downed whisky and vodka then fell asleep in middle of M20 motorway

Is the RailRoad the answer to today’s Trucking problems?

August 27th, 2009

There has been a lot of talk about having the railroad to deliver more freight because it is safer and more efficient.

How could it be more efficient for a train to deliver freight? I really don’t see how it could be much safer either, as trains do not deliver to individual stores, so trucks are STILL needed.

I saw an article posted about how trains could move so many tons more of freight on one gallon of diesel, then trucks can. How can you even compare one truck to one train? Funny how, articles are written to mislead people into thinking that this could even come close to solving the problems. In all my life I have never seen a train pull up to any store and unload. Even if it were possible to unload a train at a store, you still could not get ALL THE FREIGHT delivered by trains. » Read more: Is the RailRoad the answer to today’s Trucking problems?

August 25th, 2009

Well, some of you might be wondering what has been going on with me for the last couple weeks. I know it seems as if I have fallen off the face of the earth, and I am sure some of you wish this would happen. Anyway, I have been running ragged going to several different doctors appointments. Funny how one day you are healthy as a horse, then all of a sudden you are sick and have several health issues going at once. Don’t get me wrong, I am NOT looking for any sympathy here I just figured I would explain why I have been absent for a few days. » Read more: Physicals and health check ups do pay off down the road.
