ATA Announces National Truck Driver Appreciation Week Video Contest

The American Trucking Associations today announced that it will sponsor a video contest for National Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2009 (NTDAW). The contest aims to celebrate the 3.5 million professional truck drivers delivering life’s essentials across the country everyday.

ATA is seeking amateur submissions from 1 to 2 minutes in length explaining why professional truck drivers are essential. Entries can be produced with simple cell phone or home video cameras – with the emphasis on creativity/message, rather than production values. Ice Road trucker to be honored

The star of the television show “Ice Road Trucker” will be the honored guest Saturday, Sept. 26, for a 50-mile truck convoy on Highway 41 from Richfield to Oshkosh to benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin.

TV star Alex Debogorski from the History Channel’s “Ice Road Truckers” will be the honored guest for the fifth anniversary of the convoy. » Read more: Ice Road trucker to be honored

President Barack Obama’s nomination of a trucking industry lobbyist to head the agency that regulates the industry drew fire Wednesday from senators and safety advocates.

Feds weigh cell phone ban for bus, truck drivers

Safety investigators told federal regulators three years ago that it was dangerous for bus drivers to talk on cell phones while driving and recommended a ban.

The National Transportation Safety Board put that recommendation on its list of most important safety measures. Industry and safety groups had no objections.
