Trucker was Tired and Watching Porn in Fatal Accident

An accident happened last month on the NY Thruway. This would not be eye catching or really interesting except for those involved, but what the cause of this accident makes it interesting to everybody. The driver of the car that was hit, was a female and her car had become disabled in the road after she had hit a deer. The accident happened Dec. 12th, 2009.

I have posted articles in the past of trucking related accidents, but had tried to refrain from doing so lately. But this one is bizarre enough that it has to be written about. The driver of the truck apparently had only four hours of sleep in the previous 27 hours. Investigators I am assuming did the usual checks like Qualcomm, and cell phone, and toll tickets, and receipts from fueling, and so on to determine this.

But, what makes this accident so bizarre is that the investigators checked a laptop in the truck and determined it had been in use at the time of the accident. Which I will say is not that uncommon in truck drivers, as many use a laptop like a map. But, that’s not what this driver was doing, it was determined he “had porno movies” streaming on his laptop while he drove down the road.

What led investigators to “dig a little deeper” was that several cars were able to swerve out of the way of the disabled car before the truck slammed into it. They first ruled out drugs and alcohol, and said that the road was straight and the weather was clear that day, although the wreck did happen at the top of a grade.

Well, all I can say is I hope that porno was worth the life he took that day. I thought texting and driving was bad, but there is no comparison to this. Truckers, need to “smarten up” some if you are going to be taken seriously, especially now. It is bad enough some of you use a computer to look up directions while driving up and down the road, texting is bad as well. But, if you HAVE to watch a “porno” then stop at a rest area, or a truck stop and do it.
